Ministry Announces Build-A-Thon Opportunities For Teachers

The Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy has opened applications for teaching positions as part of its Build-A-Thon initiative program. Launched in December, the initiative aims to foster early technology adoption among senior secondary students.

Scheduled for four days in January 2024, the program is set to host 1,500 students from 150 schools across three locations: Owerri, Maiduguri, and Abeokuta. The ministry invites qualified candidates to apply for teaching roles, specifically seeking visionary educators, teachers, and tech enthusiasts capable of guiding the next generation of innovators.

Prospective teachers can submit their applications through the program's website. Minister Bosun Tijani emphasized the strategic importance of the Build-A-Thon initiative, stating, "It is part of our strategic plan to promote early technology adoption to shape tomorrow’s innovation leaders."

Key highlights of the initiative include:

Immersive Learning Experience: The Build-A-Thon, running for four days in January 2024, will offer an immersive learning experience to students. Trainers will guide participants in cultivating critical thinking, teamwork, and problem-solving skills as they work on innovative projects.

Recognition for Exceptional Teams: Exceptional teams in each location will receive recognition across various categories, such as the most innovative design, the most sustainable project, and an award for the project with the most utility.

Learning Ecosystem: Build-A-Thon comprises a comprehensive learning ecosystem, including technology labs, DIY boxes, and workshops. This ecosystem is designed to enhance students' skills by providing exposure to in-demand technologies like 3D printing, embedded systems, artificial intelligence, and the Internet of Things.
