Governor Zulum Announces Training Program for Teachers in Borno State, Releases N1Bn

During the inauguration of 27 newly appointed educational secretaries for local government education authorities in Borno State on Tuesday, Governor Zulum announced a comprehensive training program aimed at enhancing the capabilities of 1,000 teachers. The training will include teachers with 'O' level certificates and those with requisite experience but lacking formal certification.

The appointment of the educational secretaries follows a 2019 review of the state government's compulsory education law, allowing for political appointments of secretaries with the status and privileges of permanent secretaries.

This initiative comes on the heels of Governor Zulum's recent suspension of teachers' verification exercises in the state. Emphasizing his administration's commitment to prioritizing the education sector, Governor Zulum highlighted the sector's success in reducing the number of out-of-school children from two million to 800,000 over the past five years.

Addressing the state of the education sector, Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Abba Wakilbe, lamented its deteriorated condition, attributing it to poor administration.

Governor Zulum further announced significant support measures for the newly appointed education secretaries, including a monthly allowance of N500,000, a Hilux van, and a golf wagon to facilitate their operations at the local government areas (LGAs).
