Federal Government Launches Teacher Internship Scheme to Foster Smart Education in Nigeria

The Federal Government has unveiled the Teacher Internship Scheme (TIS), a new teacher development program initiated by the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC). The scheme aims to support states in cultivating a new generation of teachers equipped with the skills and knowledge to excel in the digital age and contribute to the implementation of smart education in Nigeria.

The Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman, officially launched the Teacher Internship Scheme at the UBEC Digital Resource Centre in Kado, Abuja. The center is designated to serve as a hub for creating and distributing resources to schools while providing training for school personnel.

Professor Mamman emphasized the government's commitment to providing Information and Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructure to enhance teaching and learning across the country. He highlighted the need for Nigeria to shift from traditional teaching methods to embrace the dominance of ICT in various aspects of life.

Commending Dr. Hamid Bobboyi, the Executive Secretary of UBEC, and his management team for the initiative, the Minister stressed the importance of having teachers with the right skills and knowledge to drive the process of improving the quality of education in the country.
